About ALPS Menu

Introduction

ALPS is made up of various "learning regions" within which you can explore the various ideas and research performed by Harvard Project Zero.

At present we have three regions for you to explore, with the possibility of more regions to be added in the future.

The Regions

The Thinking Classroom

The Thinking Classroom is all about the teaching of critical and creative thinking. The region is structured to help teachers attend to:

1. the dispositional side of student thinking and learning

2. transfer of student knowledge to new contexts

3. assessment of specific thinking performances

4. identification of rich thinking opportunities (thinkpoints) in the regular curriculum

Teaching for Understanding

Teaching for Understanding is an educational pedagogy that uses the following four questions as a foundation for its framework:

1. What topics are worth understanding?

2. What about these topics needs to be understood?

3. How can we foster understanding?

4. How can we tell what students understand?

Education with New Technologies

Education with New Technologies is the focus of this networked community designed to help educators develop, enact, and assess effective ways of using new technologies in their practice.

How do new technologies....

1. enhance Teaching for Understanding?

2. make curriculum more generative?

3. make goals more explicit and central?

4. support performances of understanding?

5. strengthen ongoing assessment?
