Water Habitat Unit Technology Tools

Hardware:

Sony Mavica Digital Camera

The digital camera is used to do image documentation of the water habitat and the water habitat classroom science, literacy, art, and communication work . Students first learn to take images in the classroom with help from the teacher. At the pond, images are taken at designated locations to document, compare and contrast the habitat changes over time.

This technology tool has powerfully transformed teaching and learning because of the seamless process of being able to:

  1. immediately use images with Water Habitat science data observation writing for Photo Journals and individual student writing;
  2. immediately send images with e-mail messages
  3. document the work of the Water Habitat teaching and learning in website documents to share with others

In the classroom, students learn the steps for downloading, editing and publishing images in water habitat documents. Images are stored in files on the computer. The disks of original images are also kept for back-up archival purposes.

The classroom also has a Sony Hi-8 video camera for documenting trips to the pond.

Macintosh G3 Computer
