The following National Standards are being addressed in the Water Habitat Unit lessons. While this unit is being designed and implemented in a Primary Grade Level, many lessons introduce young students to learning experiences that have connections to standards for older students. In addition, the expectation is that this unit can be implemented for students beyond Primary Grade Levels. For these reasons, standards from levels beyond the Primary Grades are included. The inclusion of standards for older students does not assume that primary students will meet the criteria of these standards but their learning experiences in the Water Habitat Unit at the Primary Grade Level move them towards meeting those criteria in later years. All too often, educators underestimate the learning capabilities of young children. When provided with an educational environment that unencumbers the challenges to understanding, children often redefine educators' expectations of what they can do!
