Overview

How might new technologies support the development of communities of practice among educators from diverse settings?

This Picture of Practice describes efforts to develop a community among museum educators from Plimoth Plantation, university educators at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and schoolteachers from Massachusetts. It highlights the role of several technologies: a particular educational model known as the Teaching for Understanding framework (TfU) ; an online workspace called the Collaborative Curriculum Design Tool (CCDT); and an online professional development course called Teaching to Standards with New Technologies. The Picture of Practice also reveals the multiple perspectives of the different educators involved and addresses the benefits and challenges of using these technologies to develop and sustain a reflective, collaborative professional community.
