Using the Message Board to Request Feedback

As the key communication medium for the design team, the Message Board facilitates much of your online collaborative thinking, and provides you with a space where you can solicit, receive, and maintain a record of feedback from members of your team.

  1. Once you've opened the design you want your teammates to review, click the "Messages" icon, located in the second row of buttons across the top of the CCDT.
  2. The Message Board will load and, in the top left, you'll see "Create a discussion topic". In the field below, labeled as "Name:", type a name for your discussion and press Return/Enter. Choose a name that communicates clearly the content of the discussion you hope to have in this space.
  3. Your topic and the date it was created should appear below on the left-hand side of the screen. Click on it to post a message to this topic.
  4. On the right side of the screen, "Post a message to the topic…" should appear. Underneath it, you will see two fields, "Title" and "Message", where you can input a subtitle and the body of your message.
  5. When you have finished typing your message, click the "Post" button. Clicking "Post" will both post the message to the discussion board and send it to your colleagues' e-mail inboxes.
  6. To ensure your message has posted, again click on the title of the corresponding discussion on the left side of the screen, and you should now see the subtitle of your message listed below. To view your message as your colleagues will, click on that subtitle and the text of your message will appear on the right side of the screen.
  7. When you're finished, close the window by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner, and you will return to the CCDT screen.

Using the Message Board to Provide Feedback

To respond to a message on the Message Board, follow these steps:

  1. Once you've opened the design you want to review, click on the "Messages" button, located below your Design Name.
  2. The Message Board will load and, on the left side of the screen, you'll see the discussion topics that you or your colleagues have started. Click on the topic you want to respond to.
  3. On the right side of the screen, "Post a message to the topic…" should appear. Underneath it, you will see two fields, "Title" and "Message", where you can input a subtitle and the body of your message. In the subtitle, you might consider using the word "feedback" to let your colleagues know you've written a message that incorporates feedback.
  4. When you have finished typing your message, click the "Post" button. Clicking "Post" will both post the message to the discussion board and send it to your colleagues' e-mail inboxes.
  5. To ensure your message has posted, again click on the title of the corresponding discussion on the left side of the screen, and you should now see the subtitle of your message listed below it. To view your message as your colleagues will, click on that subtitle and the text of your message will appear on the right side of the screen.
  6. When you're finished, close the window by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner, and you will return to the CCDT screen.
